This second edition – twenty-six years after Gloria Polo’s electrocution and ten years after the publication of the first edition edited by Flaviano Patrizi – is the only edition in the world supervised by Gloria Polo.
It is not a mere transcription of Gloria’s oral testimony, a transcription that would be inadequate to convey Gloria’s total communication, but it is a literary work that is extremely faithful to Gloria’s original narrative. The text, therefore, offers guarantees of authenticity and is suitable for conveying to the reader what in an oral testimony would escape the listener’s attention.
This second edition, which became necessary for the reasons given in the proem, contains many new unpublished narratives and explicates the many implicit contents present in Gloria’s oral testimony and in the first edition of it, explications that cast a new light on Gloria Polo’s experience and make it fully understood. The text is accompanied by notes and biblical references.
Dr. Gloria Polo never wrote her testimony herself, but left it to the theologian Flaviano Patrizi-who has shared eleven years of mission with her so far-to draft a literary version of it and supervised its content. So all other texts that list Gloria Polo as the author are, in fact, mere transcriptions of Gloria’s limited and terse oral testimony.
I Nove Ufficî al Sacro Cuore di Gesú sono un mezzo di adorazione perpetua che gli uòmini, in unione con i cori angèlici, tribútano al Cuore del Verbo incarnato. La base fondamentale dei Nove Ufficî si trova negli scritti di Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque. Si tratta, quindi, di suggerimenti e istruzioni che ella ricevette da Gesú stesso.
È una pràtica èminenteménte santificante, poiché i diversi Ufficî còstitíscono il núcleo della grande devozione, sostenuta dalle grandi promesse: «Le ànime tièpide diventeranno ferventi e quelle ferventi saliranno rapidamente a una grande perfezione». Il sàggio teòlogo e grande devoto del Sacro Cuore di Gesú, padre Arthur Vermeersch, S.I., ha giustamente scritto: «La formula della vera santità è la completa rinúncia a se stessi, e il mètodo più sémplice per raggiúngerla consiste nel consacrarsi veramente al Sacro Cuore di Gesú con una donazione totale e completa e nel praticare i Nove Ufficî per mostrare e ravvivare questa oblazione di noi stessi».
